Mass on Spring Oscillator

The video shows a large mass connected to three springs in series. The red arrow shows the acceleration vector of the mass and the yellow plot is a displacement time graph.

The screen above was taken when the displacement was a maximum upwards.

This screen was taken when the displacement from equilibrium was close to zero.
- Use the definition equation for simple harmonic motion to explain the results we are seeing in the model. Concentrate on the relationship between acceleration and displacement vectors.
- Look at the two cases included in the model. The spring constant in model 2 is higher than case 1. Use the model to explain why case 2 is not a good fit to the experimental data in the video. Use the edit/copy window function to help you construct your answer.

Download the self extracting ZIP archive. Locate the file using Windows Explorer and double click. The self extractor will then start. The default installation path is C:\AP Revision. Having set the path press the Unzip button. After the files have been extracted change directory to C:\AP Revision. To start the model double click on mkosc.mdl.
